Nick Foles and the Philadelphia Eagles are headed back to the NFC championship game after beating the Atlanta Falcons 15-10.

Turns out all the doubters, haters and oddsmakers in Las Vegas can go suck it.

Because the Philadelphia Eagles are now just one win away from punching their ticket to Super Bowl LII.

It wasn’t the prettiest game and once again quarterback Nick Foles struggled early, but the defense came up huge when they had to and the Eagles beat the Atlanta Falcons by a final of 15-10 on Saturday.

It was an ugly, gritty game that had Eagles fans on the edge of their seats until the final minute. Foles came out in the first half and once again looked overwhelmed and unsure of himself. Passes were under or overthrown multiple times and it looked like Philly was in for a repeat of the Dallas game from a couple weeks ago. The Birds also had a pair of turnovers that resulted in the Falcons scoring 10 points.

But the Eagles came in the second half and started to put things together. Foles led the offense down the field in the third and came away with a 12-10 lead thanks to a 37-yard Jake Elliott field goal. Then in the fourth quarter Foles had a 80-yard drive that started on the Eagles 7-yard line that resulted in another Elliott field goal that would turn out to be the game winner.

As most expected, the running game played a key role in the win, with Jay Ajayi seeing a lot of action. After a fumble on the Eagles first drive, he ran like a man possessed, racking up 98 yards on the day when all was said and done.

Jim Schwartz and his defense came out in the second half and effectively shut down Falcons QB Matt Ryan. The Birds didn’t allow Atlanta into the end zone again the rest of the day, including a huge stop with a minute remaining in the game that sealed the win for the Eagles.

The Super Bowl hopes of the entire city came down to a 4th-and-goal on the Birds’ 2-yard line. The defense had not allowed a touchdown in the final two minutes of a game all season and everyone was hoping that would not change anytime soon. Ryan attempted to connect with receiver Julio Jones only to watch the pass fall to the ground thanks to cornerback Jalen Mills.

One first down later and the Eagles are once again going to the NFC championship game.

This was the first Eagles home playoff win since 2006 when they beat the New York Giants in the Wild Card round.

The fact that the Eagles overcame so much pressure and negative press to get the win is nothing short of amazing. They should just give Doug Pederson the Coach of the Year award now. I can’t think of another NFL coach who deserves it more.

It goes without saying that if the Birds want to get to the Super Bowl, Foles is going to have to play better in the first half. The defense, while coming up huge down the stretch, still played sloppy and missed plenty of easy tackles which could be a big problem down the road.

But for now, fans can just enjoy a big Eagles win and get ready for one more football game at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles will play the winner of Sunday’s New Orleans Saints/Minnesota Vikings game next weekend.
