The Philadelphia Phillies are still a very young team, but despite that they could be a whole lot of fun to watch this season.
The first month of the 2017 Major League Baseball season is almost in the books. The Philadelphia Phillies started out slow but seem as if they are getting back in the swing of things. They have a five game winning streak and are tied for second place in the National League East. What can we expect the rest of the season?
I think the Phillies are going to be fun to watch this season. They may be a young team and have lost all of the members from the 2008 World Series team but they look promising. With 18 games played, they have a team average of .250 which is eighth in the National League and 19 homeruns. A few key players to watch? Caesar Hernandez and Maikel Franco.
Hernandez leads the team in almost every offensive category. It will be interesting to see how Hernandez performs the rest of the season. I don’t think anyone thought he would be successful at taking over when Chase Utley was traded.
Franco leads the team in RBIs with 16 and two grand slams already. I think his power will be a key factor to the Phillies’ offense this season.
The starting pitching seems to be decent thus far. Jeremy Hellickson is 3-0 with a 1.88 average. Jerad Eickhoff has 25 strikeouts. The pitching staff is a young group of guys. If they can continue find their rhythm and comfort, they will have a successful season.
The bullpen however maybe a different story. As you are probably aware of, the Phillies are having a hard time finding a closer which has proven costly. The starters are doing their jobs, the bullpen has to do theirs.

Overall, this season is going to be interesting. Will they make a playoff run? I’m not sure they are quite there yet but I believe they will make things exciting to watch.
