Dario Saric: The Croatian Sensation

2 min read

Dario Saric has quietly been proving that Joel Embiid wasn’t the only Sixers rookie that was worth waiting for.

Much of the news with the Philadelphia 76ers last few weeks pertained to Joel Embiid being egregiously snubbed for the NBA All-Star game and his selection to play in the Rising Stars Challenge being played during the same weekend. Embiid rightfully deserves the bulk of the attention for the season, taking an embarrassingly bad NBA team and transforming them into a possible playoff contending group.

However, there’s another rookie that has kept fans waiting for two years: Dario Saric. Like Emiid, Saric was selected to play during the Rising Stars Challenge as part of the World Team. Because of Embiid, Dario’s impressive season has gone largely unnoticed by most. Currently, the 6-foot-10 Saric is averaging 10.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in just less than 24 minutes per game.

Aside from his stats, he has had several key effort plays on offense and on defense. Saric possess the “point forward” type skill set that is common with many European players. However, his physical and gritty play breaks from the stereotype of European players and is in line with the blue-collar mentality that is endearing to Sixers fans. His ability to impact the game in a number of areas makes him well suited to play with anyone, and his teammates and coaches praise him for his coachability and selflessness. Saric has struggled with consistency on his 3-point shot and has at times looked overmatched physically. Despite this, Saric is still playing at a high level for anyone, especially a rookie.

Saric has proven both here and overseas that he is an excellent competitor and that his play will only grow. #Trustthehomie
