Whenever the subject of the best sports movies of all time comes up, one film that seems to always be on every list is Rocky. The story of a bum from the neighborhood who is given a chance at glory is considered by many to not only be one of the greatest sports film of all time, but one of the greatest movies ever made.
Through four sequels we have watched as Rocky Balboa went from nothing to become a champion and then back to nothing. And all the while, Philadelphia served as the backdrop for his rise and fall. Almost a co-star in it’s own right, the City of Brotherly Love is as much a part of the Rocky mythos as Apollo Creed, Ivan Drago and the horror that was Rocky V.
Hell, there’s a Rocky statue in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Need we say more?
Now the latest chapter in the Rocky saga, a spinoff called Creed, is set to be released this fall and the first trailer has been released.
Creed stars Michael B. Jordan as Apollo’s son Adonis and of course Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa. It’s directed by Fruitvale Station‘s Ryan Coogler.
And as you can see from the trailer, Philly is in there too.
Creed looks like it’s going to be a pretty good movie. We’ll find out one way or another on November 25.
